Bowling Birthday Party

It was a rainy afternoon, nevertheless, the party was a success. It was held at The Chevrons and was attended by CK's close friends.

Before playing bowling, we had a couple of games in the function room. They were simple games but the kids seemed to have fun.

After the game, the kids gathered round the table for the candle-blowing. In Singapore, it's a tradition that kids sing both English & Mandarin version of the birthday song.

A few minutes before 4pm, I announced to the kids that they will be divided into 2 bowling teams. There will be a special prize for the winning team. And the two bowlers who get the highest score will get a trophy. Upon seeing the trophies, the kids got excited. They got more excited when I distributed the team shirts.

At 4pm, Rey set up the score board while I accompany the kids to the shoe rental area. Kids were cheering while waiting for the game to start. Everyone's so eager to thow the ball.

While the kids were playing, the parents started to eat. They also had the chance to chat while the kids enjoy the game.

There were times when the kids asked for help from mum or dad and it was good to see the parents' participation in the game.

The game took almost two hours to finish... and that was because the balls always get stuck in the gutter or in the pin area. At the end of the game, CK got the highest score but since she's the host, she's excluded from the award.

After the game, we proceeded to the buffet area to award the prizes to the winners and to distribute the loot bags.

Finally the party was over. It was tiring but I enjoyed every minute of the party preparation and the party itself.

The Answer to my Dilemma

God is good. Our bosses found a way to solve the issues in Hong Kong without physically sending somebody to work there for a month. So here I am, happy. I don’t have to deal with that dilemma anymore. God has decided for me.

2008 Calendar - A gift to Uncle Cris & Auntie Riza

Surprisingly I was able to finish this very simple calendar in half day!

We had visitors from NY & NJ last week. On their last day, they went to Little India and Orchid Country Club. I didn't join them because I knew I can't take the heat and the walking. I stayed home and created a calendar for Uncle Cris & Auntie Riza as souvenir of their Singapore trip.

I started by putting scrap papers together. At the time I was putting them together, I had no idea what pictures will be on that page. It's the first time I did this and it was fast. I then chose 12 pictures of them taken on their first 2 days in Singapore and printed them on my printer. I pasted the picture on the LO and put simple captions.

Uncle Cris and Auntie Riza were very happy. They liked it so much and said it's the best gift they've received.

** This LO is part of my Fashion Statement album.
** Paper used: Handmade paper
** Title: I used toothpick for a bamboo effect and a more Filipiniana look.
** Journalling: Since this is part of my Fashion Statement album, I put the journaling on small, embellished skirts. I then made a Pinoy-style “sampayan” and used “sipit” to hold the skirts together.
** Embellishments used are from Divisoria.

The biggest challenge here is to find pictures of me & my dad. Though I managed to find a few, I had to do some restoration in photoshop.

Upon reading Scrappin Mom’s challenge for this month, I was really inspired to create one. Not just for the challenge, but also for my personal collection. I want to make a “Songhits”-style album where I’ll collect layouts with title and lyrics of my favourite songs. Actually I’ve done a similar accordion album entitled “Songs of My Life”. But I want to have a bigger & a more detailed one.

On the day I found out about the new challenge, I was soooo inspired that I even found myself creating a sketch while seating in the MRT. I was full of ideas and was itching to start right away.

The first song that came to my mind was “Sing Me Your Song Again Daddy”. Composed by Jose Mari Chan and popularized by Cherie Gil. It’s one of my favourite songs yet, it’s the only song which I can’t sing. Every time I try, I start sobbing on the third or fourth line of the song. I get so emotional when it comes to my dad so this was the first song that came to my mind when I thought of joining the challenge.

For my layout, I planned to put together all things that remind me of my dad. One of the highlight was supposed to be a chessboard which is one my dad’s favourite board game. On the board, I planned to put die-cut of guitar, bowling pins & ball, G-clef, jumping rope etc.

Weekend came and I started gathering the materials. But every time I try putting them together, I get dizzy & sleepy. It was like this for several weeks until I lose my momentum. I even cried and told my husband to help me with it coz I really wanted to finish the LO. I was preggy by the way… hopefully that explains all the drama.

Last weekend, I was in good condition. I still get dizzy (& lazy) but not as bad as the previous weeks. I was able to put everything together and finished the LO. It wasn’t done the way I planned it to be. But I’m still happy that I was able to finish the LO for my dad. It’s also my first LO since May 2007.

My entry to ScrappinMoms' May Challenge. I love using flower embellishments in my LOs: And because I have two girls, I can use them as much as I want to.

I tried new techniques in this LO. This is the first time I hand-cut a patterned paper and used glitters. To put life to the prima flowers, I highlighted them with some transparent glitter glaze too.

My first time to win a scrapbook challenge...and this was my winning LO. I wasn’t keen on joining the challenge because I was so busy that time. And I knew how good the other girls are. Thanks to Jo, “the scrap addict”, who urged me to join her challenge. It was my first time to win and I felt so good.

Here’s a LO I made for Joyce’s challenge. The theme was Angel’s ABC album. The moment I saw the picture, I knew right away what color scheme I’m going to use for this LO. Fortunately, Joyce has the perfect papers for this. Guess what.. I got the prize. It’s one of my favorite LO so far.

Every year, my hubby's company celebrates Family Day. In 2004, Family Day was held at the East Coast Park. This is my first 2-page LO. I've tried different techniques and embellishments like buttons, eyelets, tab and dry embossing . This was created for scrapbook-exchange's Monthly Challenge for Aug 2004.

My First Layout

My first layout was a picture of Bianca taken when she was 2 days old. It was created sometime in July 2004. Since it was my first time, I scraplifted from a layout I found in twopeasinabucket (sorry can't remember whose LO was it). I thought it would be easier to scraplift but it turned out to be more difficult and frustrating.

In this layout, I thought it would be nice to journal the meaning of Bianca's name. This is also the first time I used eyelets and all those eyelet-related tools.

Scrapbooking

When I was in High School, one of my hobbies is to take and collect pictures. I always enjoyed cropping and arranging pictures in an album; collecting and sticking cut-outs and stickers and combining any scrap material to make my album extra-ordinary.

A few years later, some of the pictures have turned yellow. It was only last year that I discovered a different world of scrapbooking... the concept is still the same but it has become a very expensive hobby. Why? Because now they have discovered materials and tools that are acid-free, lignin-free, archival-safe etc. Now there are more techniques and more media. Digital scrapbooking is also becoming popular due to its flexibility and cost-effectiveness.

I'm not an expert... really. All I know is that I love scrapbooking. I love art. I love expressing myself... and most of all... I'm a sentimental person who wants to document every single detail of our lives.
